Motivation
The LSM 2000 computer graphics session aims at covering most of the active aspects of the free software developping. The idea is to make people from different comunity of graphics meet, either programmers, users, researchers, or project managers. The result of the session would be to create contacts, share experiences, possibly define some interesting evolution for existing softwares, or create links between existing graphics applications, etc....
Sub-topics
-
2D Software:
-
This topic covers all the relevant areas of image manipulation (either bitmap, such as the GIMP, or vector oriented, such as Sketch), scanning, color manipulation, warping and morphing techniques.
Also, there are aspects that are not yet common in the free software, and that could be of interest, such as image analyzing and color calibration. An interesting point would be to organize an opened discussion about those areas or known techniques that could be implemented as free soft, and that are not yet available, in other words to raise a link that could be strengthened between research and free software.
It would also be of interest to question the fact to know what do free softwares miss in order to be usable at the same level as professionnal applications
-
3D software:
-
This topic covers all the area of the modern 3D topics, including geometric modelling, animation. 3D toolkits, such as the HyperFun project, or libraries, such as the SvLis project, will be presented. This topics aims, just like for the 2D software sub-session, raising the important directions in which free software should go in order to provide improvements to the already existing tools, and also create new ones, if missing.
-
Computer Graphics Hardware:
-
This topic aims at covering all the hardware oriented considerations in high-performance graphics: video card drivers, OpenGl handling, etc...
Program
